New Faculty of Nursing will be on land in the reverted areas

The President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, was a witness of honor in the notification of the resolution that assigns the use and administration to the University of Panama, free of charge for a period of 10 years, extendable, of an area of 8.3 hectares, located in Clayton, for the construction of the new headquarters of The Faculty of Nursing.

President Cortizo Cohen said that the lots and properties that we transferred to the University of Panama with a reference value that exceeded 10 million dollars would be an important asset in the task of educating and training new generations of nurses and patients.

"The most valuable resource that our country has in combating the disease is human resources, and therefore their training must be a priority in planning our future as a nation," said Cortizo Cohen.

The Chief Executive stressed that the value of nursing professionals was fully demonstrated during the harsh months of the health crisis caused by the pandemic and during the extraordinary vaccination days that were taken to the most remote places in the country.

With this allocation, the president added, "we are fulfilling our commitment to build new headquarters for the faculties of Medicine and Nursing, and we have taken the first steps to achieve it, even in the midst of the great challenges that our administration has had to face due to multiple factors of external origin.

In accordance with Resolution 024-22 of July 12, 2022 of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, through the Administrative Unit of Reverted Assets, only use the assigned property for the creation of the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Panama.

It also establishes that the University of Panama may not assign, sublease, transfer or encumber the assets object of this resolution, nor may it vary their use or destination, without prior and express authorization from the nation.

For his part, the rector of the University of Panama, Eduardo Flores, thanked the Executive for making the dream of the nurses come true and being able to start the construction of the new facilities.

"Today we complete the first step, but a firm step to build the new headquarters of the Faculty of Nursing and continue providing care to the Panamanian people," said Flores. President Cortizo Cohen was accompanied by Luis Francisco Sucre, Minister of Health; Héctor Alexander, Minister of Economy and Finance; Fernando Paniagua, Executive Secretary of the UABR, Eyra Ruiz, Minister Counselor; Eduardo Flores, rector of the University of Panama; Yolanda González, Dean of the Faculty of Nursing; Elydia Espinosa, president of the National Association of Nurses of Panama; Eusebia de Copete, National Head of Nursing at the Ministry of Health; Doris Blandón, National Head of Nursing for the Social Security Fund; among other authorities.
